Steer this way?
Lee Taylor used thrust vectoring on his Hustler jet boat but no thrust means no vectoring and no control – not good. On a proposed later design he extended the vertical vectoring blade into the water to add a rudder.
Our research has highlighted just how much force is applied to the rudder with each small increment of movement so one option is to make the rudders move in a different way. The pivot axis is not horizontal but the idea is that when they first enter the water the blade is at zero degrees to the water flow. With more immersion the rudder angle automatically increases, so it works both as a resistance rudder and a conventional side-force rudder.
Not decided yet since there are other options to be explored but an interesting alternative.
