Using the tank test model of Reid Railton’s design (pictured left above), Len Newton built a composite boat powered by a Mammoth jet engine as used in large scale aircraft models.
This was a good first step because it indicated that a reverse 3 point design had benefits in terms of reduced hydrodynamic drag while also minimising front end lift. But it also had potential stability and control issues as more load was applied to the single front planing shoe.
